At Peter Project, we believe families should have access to support, guidance, and helpful information when they need it most. Below are resources for crisis support, mental health services, substance use concerns, and community assistance.

Florida Mobile Response Teams

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, emotional distress, thoughts of self-harm, substance use crisis, or need someone to talk to, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The 988 Lifeline provides 24/7 support by phone, text, and chat.

Crisis Text Support

For free, confidential crisis support by text, text HOME to 741741 to connect with the Crisis Text Line. Crisis Text Line provides 24/7 support for people experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm concerns, or other crisis situations.

Texas Resources

Texas 2-1-1

Families in Texas can call 2-1-1 for help finding local resources, including mental health support, housing assistance, food resources, healthcare, crisis services, and other community programs. 2-1-1 Texas also lists mental health crisis lines and local mental health authority crisis resources.

Texas Mental Health Crisis Services

Texas Health and Human Services provides crisis services that may include 24/7 crisis support, face-to-face crisis assessment, crisis intervention, crisis follow-up, and relapse prevention services.

Texas Local Mental Health Authority / Local Behavioral Health Authority

Families can search for their local mental health or behavioral health authority to find county-based mental health services, referrals, and crisis support. Texas HHSC provides a search tool and service area map to help families locate the closest LMHA or LBHA.

Texas Crisis Units

Texas HHSC advises families to contact their local mental health authority or local behavioral health authority, or call 2-1-1 and ask for the LMHA or LBHA in their area, when seeking crisis unit information

Florida Resources

Florida 988 Lifeline

The 988 Florida Lifeline is a free behavioral health support service available 24/7 for Floridians experiencing suicidal thoughts, substance use concerns, mental health crisis, or emotional distress.

Florida Mobile Response Teams

Florida Mobile Response Teams provide 24/7 emergency behavioral health care to individuals experiencing a severe emotional or behavioral health crisis. These teams may respond in the home, school, or community and are designed to help de-escalate crisis situations and connect individuals to support.

Florida Children’s Mental Health Program

Florida’s Children’s Mental Health Program supports family-focused and community-based planning for children and families who may need services from more than one agency. These teams help families and caregivers develop a plan to address the child’s mental health and related needs while the child remains in the community.

Florida 2-1-1

Families in Florida may call 2-1-1 to ask about local behavioral health resources, crisis support, Mobile Response Teams, housing assistance, food assistance, and other community-based supports. Some Florida regions also use 2-1-1 to help connect families to Mobile Response Teams.

Substance Use and Treatment Resources

SAMHSA National Helpline

The SAMHSA National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information service for individuals and families facing mental health or substance use concerns. Families can call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) for support and treatment referral information.

FindTreatment.gov

Families can use Find Treatment.gov to search for mental health and substance use treatment providers in their area.

When to Reach Out for Support

You may want to seek support if your child or teen is experiencing:

Behavioral changes, anger, aggression, sadness, anxiety, withdrawal, difficulty coping, trauma-related concerns, school challenges, family conflict, self-harm concerns, substance use concerns, or difficulty managing daily responsibilities.

You do not have to wait until things become overwhelming. Reaching out early can help families get connected to guidance, support, and next steps.

Referral and Intake Support

Families, guardians, schools, foster care agencies, caseworkers, hospitals, community partners, and providers may submit a referral to Peter Project through our Get Started page.

After a referral or application is submitted, our team will review the information and follow up regarding eligibility, service needs, and next steps.
